More Polishing Needed

The Last Shaman

I wanted to develop a story that revealed the origin of vampires without being a vampire tale. The Last Shaman does just that while pitting man against an evil from the beginning of time.

On his deathbed, an elderly Choctaw Indian gives his grandson, Danny, an ancient pouch and instructs him to use it to protect humanity. Not believing in superstitions, Danny burns the pouch on his grandfather’s pyre only to have it return the following day and compel him across the country to investigate a rash of serial killings. At each crime scene, mystic visions play in his mind, visions of a demonic creature feeding on its victims’ fear as well as blood.

This entity is an angel that had fallen with Lucifer and somehow escaped God’s wrath, only to be imprisoned on earth by an ancient shaman thousands of years ago. Inadvertently freed, it wishes to pave the way for Satan’s reign. Detecting Danny’s presence, the demon believes him to be the shaman that had imprisoned him and starts hunting its adversary. Danny has little time to unlock the secrets of the pouch and determine how the original shaman conquered the creature. Even then, will that be enough to save himself as well as the rest of humanity?

Additional note on The Last Shaman

A friend introduced me via email to published author, Bob Deatherage, who asked to read The Last Shaman.  He enjoyed it (his exact words - "Awesome book").  He suggested that I write a prequel - The First Shaman.

Near Death

From Tithonus in Greek mythology to modern day fiction, the concept of immortality has traversed history. Highlander meets the Sentinel in Near Death.

Abandoned by his mother, Jonathan Chambers is different than other kids – never sick, accelerated healing, and heightened senses. Puberty brings mind reading and precognitive abilities. Keeping his secret is not easy. Then he falls in love and reveals the truth. This leads to imprisonment at the hands of a criminal syndicate where brainwashing begins for his eventual service. He nearly cracks before a voice in his head screams for help.

Who is calling and why? Jonathan escapes and pursues the voice. In order to reach his journey’s end, he must discover exactly who he is, evade assassin mercenaries, and confront the syndicate’s experienced telepath.

The Hands of Time

From Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to Avengers Endgame, time travel has fascinated millions.  In The Hands of Time, Justin Alexander has the ability to travel through time.  As a modern-day superhero, he saves those unable to save themselves.  Then his wife, Lorna, dies in a car accident.  When he needs his power the most, it deserts him.  Trying to regain his ability, Justin fails to notice an evil controlling him.  The Timekeeper does not want to save Lorna.  The Timekeeper wishes to rule all of time.

I wrote the Hands of Time in the early nineties and learned just how many rejection letters a person could receive.  Joining a writer’s group, I learned editing and polishing techniques from Marjorie Meyerle.  The story was trimmed from 120,000 words to 90,000.  It still needs a major rewrite which I plan to do. Why?  The Hands of Time, along with The Last Shaman, Near Death, and Lost Souls are stand-alone novels, but I created a twist.  A fifth novel, Crossed Roads, takes characters from all four books and creates another adventure.  When reading books, I often wonder what will happen to the characters in the future.  Now, I will reveal what happens to mine.
